Provenance
Tabriz was the first Persian city to engage in large-scale carpet export to Europe, beginning in the 1870s. The tradition of master designers (Naqqsheh) creating detailed cartoons for weavers to follow produced a level of technical precision that set the standard for Persian fine weaving. This carpet's star medallion design can be traced to sixteenth-century Safavid court prototypes, reinterpreted with the technical mastery of a mid-twentieth century master workshop.
