Nain Ivory Floral Scrollwork — Navy Ground

Nain, the small city in central Iran near Isfahan, has been producing some of Persia's most technically refined rugs since the mid-twentieth century. This superb example showcases Nain's distinctive aesthetic: a rich navy ground over which ivory and gold floral scrollwork cascades in an all-over pattern of breathtaking intricacy. The pale ivory border, itself a garden of miniature palmettes and vine work, creates a luminous frame that makes the navy field appear to recede like a deep-sea vista. The silk highlights, woven selectively into the floral blooms, catch and reflect light in a way that no purely wool rug can achieve.
