Provenance
Qom (also spelled Qum or Ghom) only began producing silk rugs in the 1930s, but within a generation its master weavers had achieved a level of technical refinement that placed Qom silk firmly among the world's most valuable handmade textiles. This piece was woven in a workshop under the supervision of a master weaver and took two skilled craftsmen over two years to complete. The silk was sourced from the silk farms of Gilan province in northern Iran, the finest silk-producing region in the country.
